Most meetings fail before they start

The meeting that wanders had no destination set. If the purpose is “touch base” or “discuss the project”, there's nothing to converge on, so it drifts. The single biggest lever on meeting quality is deciding, before it starts, what specifically needs to come out of it.

Every meeting should have a purpose you can state in one line: a decision to make, a problem to solve, or a plan to align on. If you can't write that line, the meeting probably shouldn't happen—or should be an email.
