What BLUF means
BLUF stands for “bottom line up front.” It's a writing and speaking discipline borrowed from the military and adopted across consulting, product, and executive communication: state your conclusion, request, or recommendation in the first sentence — before the context, the analysis, or the caveats.
The bottom line is what you'd say if you only had one sentence: the decision you need, the answer to the question, the thing that changed. Everything else is support that comes after.
